Steel structure storey adding technology is a new form of reinforcement and transformation which is being gradually implemented. Compared with concrete structure, it has obvious technical, economic and safety advantages. However, it is not widely used in the world and its design is not perfect.

The research of steel structure adding story is very early in our country. In order to adapt to the rapid development of building structure reinforcement and steel structure storey adding projects, and better complete the old building storey adding reconstruction work, China has established academic groups such as building storey adding Reconstruction Technology Research Committee and reinforcement technology standard committee, forming an active academic discussion and experience exchange environment for steel structure storey adding reconstruction projects.

It can be used in multi story buildings or buildings that are not suitable for adding directly to the original structure. Generally speaking, this kind of adding layer technology is also called jacket frame adding layer structure. There are two main types of storey adding structure: separated structure and integral structure. The former completely separates the outer frame from the old house, while the latter means that the outer frame is connected with the old house as a whole.
